About the Cover

Cover Figure

The Monterey ocean bottom broadband observatory (MOBB) was installed in April 2002 in northern California’s Monterey Bay with the help of the remotely operated vehicle Ventana, shown here ready to carry the seismometer package to the ocean floor. Details of recent developments at the station can be found in the article, “Acquiring Real Time Data from the Broadband Ocean Bottom Seismic Observatory at Monterey Bay (MOBB),” which begins on page 197. The subsequent article, “A New Multidisciplinary Marine Monitoring System for the Surveillance of Volcanic and Seismic Areas,” decribes a similar program taking place in Italy and begins on page 203.
