BSSA Online Becomes the Official Journal of Record
|
|---|
The SSA Board of Directors voted to change the official "journal of
record" from the print edition to the HTML electronic edition. This
decision was based on a recommendation from BSSA Editor Andy Michael
that was endorsed by the Publications Committee. The decision continues the
implementation of our commitment to electronic publishing. Steps have been
taken to ensure that the online edition is truly archival. The static print
edition will generally reflect the electronic edition (minus electronic
supplements). If there are other differences between the two editions then the
electronic edition will be the archival standard. Early in 2010, authors will
be given the option of displaying their figures in color in the online edition
and printing the same figure in black and white in the print edition.
For the present, articles will still be posted to the BSSA Online
edition in groups as a discrete issue, not as individual papers. The print and
pdf versions will still display page numbers as well as Digital Object
Identifiers (DOI's). (Beginning with Vol. 99: No.4, the August 2009 issue,
online pdf files have all of the links between references, figures, and
tables—where they are mentioned—and links to external Web sites
and the electronic supplements.)

Wilfred (Bill) D. Iwan, Emeritus Professor of Applied Mechanics at the
California Institute of Technology, has been chosen as the first recipient of
the Bruce Bolt Medal, which is awarded jointly by SSA, the Consortium of
Organizations for Strong-Motion Observation Systems (COSMOS), and the
Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI).
Iwan is honored for his many accomplishments in advancing earthquake
strong-motion monitoring networks and instrumentation in the United States and
internationally, his research accomplishments in earthquake engineering and
engineering seismology, and his effective leadership roles in professional
organizations to further the acquisition and application of strong-motion
data. Notable among . . . [Full Text of this Article]
