SSA member Francis A. (Tony) Dahlen has been honored with the 2007
Harry Fielding Reid Medal of the Seismological Society of America for
outstanding contributions in seismology and earthquake engineering.
Regrettably, Dr. Dahlen died 3 June 2006; a memoriam of his life and career
will appear in a future issue of SRL. Dahlen was chairman and
professor of the department of geosciences at Princeton University.
SSA's immediate past president and former BSSA editor Michael Fehler
has been honored with the SSA's 2007 Distinguished Service Award, which will
be presented to him at the 2008 SSA Annual Meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Meanwhile, Fehler has taken a position as a senior research scientist at
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He heads for Boston later this year
after 23 years at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
