SSA member Jean-Lou Chameau took office 1 September 2006 as the new
president of the California Institute of Technology. He previously was provost
and vice president for academic affairs at the Georgia Institute of
Technology.
Ted Algermissen, an SSA member since 1957, has died. His
professional accomplishments include founding of the NOAA (now USGS) Seismic
Hazard Project and creating the first national probabilistic earthquake ground
motion map. Algermissen was instrumental in working with the engineering
community to get such maps incorporated in national building codes.
SSA member Paul Bodin has moved from the Center for Earthquake
Research and Information at The University of Memphis to be a research
