    Luciana Astiz Named New SRL Editor
 
Luciana Astiz of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, has been selected to be the next editor of the Seismological Society of America's Seismological Research Letters.

"We are very pleased to have a scientist of Dr. Astiz's caliber and ability taking on this important, high-profile position for the Society," said John Ebel, chair of the SSA Publications Committee, which selected Astiz for the position.

Astiz succeeds Susan Hough of the U.S. Geological Survey, Pasadena, who has been SRL editor since 2001. Astiz will handle new submissions as of 1 August 2006, and she will have full responsibility for all items in SRL beginning with the March/April 2007 issue (volume 78, number 2).


    SSA Seeks New Treasurer
 
The Seismological Society of America is seeking a new treasurer to begin serving the Society in April 2007 when the next SSA Board of Directors convenes at the annual meeting in Hawaii. SSA Treasurer David von Seggern, who has served for nearly nine years, wishes to step down at the end of his current term.

The SSA treasurer plays an important role in preparing the Society's budget and managing its finances. "The Society is in sound financial condition with assets of approximately $1 million, and there are no major issues pending for the new treasurer to deal with," von Seggern said.

The SSA Board Policy Manual spells out the treasurer's duties as follows:

"The Treasurer, in consultation with the Executive Committee, has general supervision over all financial affairs of the Society. The Treasurer represents the financial interests of the Membership and ensures the financial viability of the Society and its programs. Specifically, the Treasurer:
