The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) and the
Seismological Society of America (SSA) Distinguished Lectureship Series will
sponsor the following three programs in 2006:
- Dr. Seth Stein, "Giant Earthquakes: Why, Where, When, and What We Can
Do"
- Dr. Ed Garnero, "Vibrations From the Deep: Deciphering the Birth and
Death of the Earth's Surface"
- Dr. Mary Lou Zoback, "The 1906 Earthquake—Lessons Learned,
Lessons Forgotten, and Future Directions"
The Lecture Series is seeking museum, university, and other venues for this
season's lectures. General arrangements, including publicity, will be

Geoscience Australia to Use Kinemetric's Aspen System for Seismic Component of ATWS
|
|---|
Geoscience Australia will use Kinemetric's Aspen System Solution for the
design of the terrestrial seismic component of the Australian Tsunami Warning
System (ATWS). The newly established ATWS, administered by Geoscience
Australia (GA)
and other government agencies, will build a monitoring network to detect,
locate, and determine the magnitude of potentially tsunamigenic earthquakes
occurring in the region and its immediate margins in order to improve tsunami
earthquake disaster prevention and reduction. For more information visit
